August Wrap Up And Our Top 5 Instagrammers/Snapchatters
We may earn money or products from the companies mentioned in this post.
August has been a month of highs and lows.
Highs: We finished out our month stay in Barcelona at the beginning of August, my sister came to visit for three weeks and we traveled Spain, Croatia, Slovenia and had lunch in Austria, and we got to reunite with our best friends at a music festival in Croatia. What could be better right? Seriously, nothing. And that may be one reason why August has been my favorite month so far.
Lows: But on the other hand, we learned something. All that fun costs money and well, it turns out we are broke. We are not as good at budgeting as we thought, though lets be honest, we never thought we were good at budgeting (hence why we aren’t budget travelers). So that is the downside of August.
However, I wouldn’t change it for the world. At this moment, we are working on figuring out what we are going to do. The only thing we know is we aren’t going to go home. That is simply not an option (and not just because we can’t afford the flights home). We are not going to give up on our dream and we are currently figuring out how to make it work for us. Hopefully in the next couple of days we will have some confirmation that our crazy schemes have panned out and we can keep on traveling (we will keep you updated!).
But anyways let us not dwell on the dismal lack of money and instead remember all the fantastic things we did in August. Travel is all about experiences and we would never regret any of the experiences we have had on the road!
August Wrap Up
I still can’t believe that in the beginning of August we were in Barcelona! It feels so long ago and I already miss it. We are hoping to head back to Barcelona in the fall around late November. Hopefully everything works out and we can do that because we have so much more we want to see and eat in that city! After all we only made it to 2 out of the 5 places that Expat Edna recommends.
We were busy the last week in Barcelona with my sister in town. We were trying to cram everything we had put off until her arrival into just four days. While slightly crazy, we got to explore more of this beautiful city and show her our favorite spots.
Overall I think it is truly the details of Barcelona that made me fall in love with it. I don’t think there is a city that has enthralled me more and made me fall in love with it just because of the buildings. Yes, in Rome I fell in love because of the archaeology but I can’t say that an apartment building in Rome made me fall in love, but in Barcelona I can say that.
After a bittersweet goodbye to Barcelona, we headed to Croatia. We first fell in love with Croatia when we visited to go to Soundwave back in 2012 and we fell so in love that we planned a reunion with all of our old roommates here for this year. The town of Tisno, where Soundwave is located, is a picture perfect quaint Croatian seaside village. I mean could you picture a more idyllic setting?
For five days this is what we woke up to. Yes, camping kinda sucks but with views like this in the morning, afternoon and night it was all worth it.
I seriously think that we need to purchase a villa in Tisno. We can add that to the dream list along with my villa in Crete!
After the music festival Hailey, Alex, our friend Daniel and I rented a car and started out on an epic road trip around Croatia and Slovenia. Our first stop was the stunning Plitvice Lakes which were mind bogglingly beautiful. I mean check out the color of that water?!?
After spending the full dat at Plitvice Lake we headed up north into Istria, which is actually where we are now. We were based in Bale but traveled out to the sea to visit the tourist town of Rovinj. Rovinj is a stunning medieval city filled with white marble and twisting alleys which eventually lead you to stunning views of the seaside. Really wished I had brought my bathing suit that day….
The following day we popped into Slovenia to visit Lake Bled. On the way up there I realized how close we were to the Austrian border so I had the grand idea to get lunch in Austria. We ended up in Villach and poor Daniel got to experience us all singing The Sound of Music while we crossed the border 🙂
watch at your own risk 🙂
*This is the kind of delightful things you can find on our snapchat @PursuitAdventur, and yes we realize we can’t sing but this was a special moment.
After visiting Austria we headed to Lake Bled. This fairytale lake is everything it promises to be in photos and more. I would love to come back and see it in different seasons. If you can get here, just go. It will be completely worth it.
After Slovenia, we spent three nights in Zagreb. I honestly, had no expectation for Zagreb what so ever and in return we were presented with an atmospheric city that was completely different from what we have seen in the rest of Croatia. We had an unbelievable time here, partly in thanks to Andrea from Zagreb Honestly and her and her husband’s hospitality. Three days was not enough in this city and we certainly will be back!
And then of course, how could we forget the cannon incident? We were enjoying the view from the Strossmayer Promenade when all of a sudden we heard a deafening BOOM! We all sort of freaked out but after a few seconds, which felt like minutes, we realized no one else was freaking out. Turns out we were seated just 500ft away from the cannon that goes off at noon everyday. We were scared shitless; we won’t be forgetting this afternoon anytime soon!
After Zagreb, we said goodbye to Daniel and returned to Split for a few more days with my sister. And as the sun was setting over this historical city we did the most couplely thing we could think of…. We took a sunset instagram photo for your viewing please 😉
After a final three days in Split with my sister, we headed back north to Istria where we still are today. We are here at the moment as Alex is spending the weekend shadowing a wine maker as harvest has started here!
So that is what we have been up to this month. As for the future, we are not sure. We have accommodation through September 3rd and then it is back to the drawing board to see where we end up! Hopefully one of our schemes, be it workaway, winning the lottery (ya right!) or getting a wine harvest job will happen and we will have a place for September or October. Stay checked in with our instagram and snapchat (@PursuitAdventur) to keep updated with our lives!

I’ve jotted down some notes from this post and we are headed to Croatia and Slovenia at the end of September. Looks like you guys had a wonderful time!
Awesome! We will have to follow you back as soon as we get chargers for our phones, they are currently all dead 🙁 Where are you going in Croatia and Slovenia? We will actually be here for another two months since it is such an amazing country!
I fell in love with Barcelona, too! It’s hard not to, and I miss it so much! And, it’s okay to spend money on experiences rather than things! Glad you enjoy my Instagram pics 😉
Maria, we are clearly believers in spending money on experiences, especially food in Barcelona! All the tapas and pinxtos, how could we not? 🙂
What an epic month guys!! I’m sure good fortune and hard work will pay off and you’ll be set for the next little while! Fabulous photos and can’t wait to see where you end up next!
