We may earn money or products from the companies mentioned in this post.
A lot of what you hear about San Juan del Sur in Nicaragua is that it is a paradise for surfers and it hosts the infamous “Sunday Funday.” While we didn’t experience Sunday Funday (as it costs $30 and all it gets you is the entrance and a t-shirt) we certainly managed to take advantage of the happy hour in San Juan. In our opinion, this was a much better way to see the town and save a ton of money! If you are heading to San Juan on a budget opt out of Sunday Funday and opt in for happy hour in San Juan del Sur!
The best thing about happy hour in San Juan is that most days you can experience happy hour from 1 pm to 11 pm and it isn’t just Monday through Thursday. Many of the places have happy hour every day or at least Sunday through Friday. Just use this guide and you will be navigating happy hour in San Juan del Sur like a pro!
Happy Hour in San Juan del Sur
Start at Parlour to begin your epic Happy Hour in San Juan!
Parlour
Gringo Street
Happy Hour Special: 1-4pm and 8-9pm Every Day, 2×1 Mojitos and Margaritas, Plus $1 Tequila Shots All Day Every Day
Cash Only
Parlour is the best for cocktails in San Juan and the best thing is they offer their happy hour every day! They actually have two plus they offer $1 tequila shots all day, every day! So if you want to start off happy hour in San Juan right then you have to come here for their 2 for 1 mojitos and margaritas. These come in all sorts of flavors too from spicy jalapeno to passion fruit to strawberry to mango and all are delicious and have enough rum in them to propel you all the way into the evening!
Iguana
On the Beach
Happy Hour Special: 2-7pm Sunday through Friday, $1 Local Beers, 2×1 Cocktails and Food Specials
Iguana is nothing fancy but if you want to enjoy one of the longest happy hours in San Juan then you need to park yourself oceanside at Iguanas. This is the perfect place to grab a beer and then go for a dive in the ocean to cool off. Repeat until the sun goes down! Also, these guys have amazing chicken wings. They may not be local cuisine but at 10 córdobas a wing they are definitely something you can splurge on!
From 3 pm until about 6 pm you are going to have a wealth of options as this is when most of the happy hours in San Juan begin. So try a couple out, pick a favorite or try to hit them all! This happy hour in San Juan trail is all about the places you like after all!
Republika
Avenida Mercado
Happy Hour Special: 3-6pm Every Day, 3×2 Tacos, Rum Drinks for 40 Córdobas, Victoria for 30 Córdobas
Cash Only
Republika is where you need to stop to fill up on food and beer! Their tacos are absolutely amazing including their falafel tacos. It may sound weird but this is one of the best happy hour tacos you can get! Plus it’s veggie friendly. While they do offer rum drinks on happy hour here we found them a bit light and not worth the money so if you come for happy hour be sure to stick to beer and tacos. They just go together after all anyway!
Dale Pues
Main Road Heading Out of Town
Happy Hour Special: 3-6pm Every Day, $1 Beers, Rum Drinks and Tequila Shots
Cash Only
Dale Pues is probably our favorite place to eat in San Juan. They have unbelievable panini and their daily happy hour is perfect for washing down their sandwiches. Their rum drinks are on point and they certainly don’t skimp on the rum. If you find your energy lagging at around 3 pm and you need food then you have to come here for their happy hour in San Juan! (Also you should just come here regardless for the food!)
Cervecería
Avenida Mercado
Happy Hour Special: 4-6pm Every Day, 15% off Pints
Looking for some craft beer while in San Juan? Well, then a stop by Cervecería is a must! While their happy hour isn’t the best deal in town they have the best beers so it is definitely worth swinging by. The guys behind Cervercería are three guys from the East Coast who fell so in love with San Juan that they decided to set up a brewing company here! They are using local ingredients to create their signature beers which are perfect for the balmy Nica weather! Try out their Mango Maduro or Popoyo (Passion Fruit Ale) or their classic Panga Sessions Pale Ale. You won’t regret coming to this happy hour in San Juan once you have one of their delicious beers in your hand!
*Also watch out USA, they are starting to import their beer to the States in Stubby Cans so keep an eye out for Nicaragua Craft Beer Co!
They have cocktails too!
Beach House
On the Beach
Happy Hour Special: 4-6pm Monday through Friday, $1 Toña beers and Nica Libres Plus Food Specials
Cash Only
Has your happy hour in San Juan not been Instagram-worthy yet? Don’t worry Beach House will fix that! This gorgeous restaurant has a clean and modern beach aesthetic filled with white driftwood, swings and beachside Adirondack chairs. In addition to that, they also have a fantastic happy hour in San Juan!
Grab a table beachside or one of their swings and order up a refreshing Nica Libre (same as the Cuba Libre) and some of their delicious food! While their cocktails are strong, simple and refreshing it is really the food that we came here for. Think giant avocados stuffed with shrimp or chicken satay with the best curry sauce we have tasted in awhile to top it. Beach House takes happy hour in San Juan to another level with their amazing food offerings and Instagram-worthy restaurant!
El Timon
On the Beach
Happy Hour Special: 4-6pm Monday through Friday, $1 Beers and Rum Drinks Plus Food Specials
Looking for a happy hour in San Juan where you can order several cocktails at once and visit with a large group? Look no further than El Timon. This was actually the first happy hour in San Juan that we experienced and it certainly is a memorable one since we were able to order 10-20 drinks per person at one time. When you are pressed for happy hour time sometimes you have to do what you gotta do! Personally, I would simply come here for the passion fruit and rum cocktails. They are simple but oh so delicious with the tanginess of the passion fruit balancing out the slight sweetness of the Flor de Cana rum.
Pelican Eyes
Above Town
Happy Hour Special: 4-6pm Every Day, 2×1 on All Drinks
While we never personally experienced Pelican Eyes, this is the resort to visit if you want a panorama view of San Juan during your happy hour. They have a gorgeous view of the Bay from their pool deck where happy hour takes place and we’ve heard it is an idyllic place to take in the sunset! Plus you can wash it all down with 2 for 1 pina colada!
After 6 pm the amount of happy hour in San Juan peters off a bit but don’t worry we still have plenty of places you can visit to make it until at least 11 pm!
Barrio Cafe
Gringo Street
Happy Hour Special: 3-6pm Monday through Friday, 2×1 Coffee Specials, 6-8pm Monday through Friday 2×1 Rum Lemonade Special
Barrio Cafe was one of our favorite lunch spots but it is also a fantastic spot for a Rum Lemonade happy hour in San Juan. Their boozy lemonade is refreshing and comes in several different flavors including hibiscus. Plus their happy hour is the perfect bridge to the evening’s debauchery! Grab some dinner, a few boozy lemonades and get prepared to go out!
Parlour Again!
Gringo Street
Happy Hour Special: 8-9pm Every Day, 2×1 Mojitos and Margaritas
Cash Only
If you didn’t get enough of Parlour’s happy hour in the afternoon be sure to pop back in for their evening happy hour. I mean can you really get enough mojitos and margaritas??
Corto Maltese Bar and Lounge
Corner Bar where the Road Splits Leaving Town
Happy Hour Special: 5-11pm Monday through Thursday, 2×1 Mojitos and Caipirinhas, $1 Victoria
Corto Maltese was perhaps our favorite discovery that came waaayyy too late in our month in San Juan del Sur. Their little bar isn’t exactly hidden but their insane happy hour seems like it is still relatively undiscovered in San Juan. If you are craving a drink Monday through Thursday then you need to pop in here for happy hour. They offer $1 Victoria beers and 2×1 mojitos and caipirinhas from 5-11pm. How can you say no to that? Plus their caipirinhas are delicious even if they are made with Flor de Cana instead of cachaca. They also have a lovely upstairs terrace in which to sip your drinks all night long!
The In Between
The Loose Moose
Gringo Street
Daily Specials
Cash Only
Not had enough yet? Why not try heading to the Loose Moose which offers daily specials all day! The Loose Moose is a Canadian bar so if you are craving a Caesar or poutine then you must come here. They offer daily specials like 30% off Caesars or $1 tequila shots. Just pop in or check out their chalkboard sign to see what they are offering that day!
Also don’t forget about the $1 tequila shots at Parlour which are available all day, every day!
So there you have it! Who needs Sunday Funday when you can create your own happy hour in San Juan tour almost every day of the week!
