Another month down and gone…. I swear they keep going by faster. Considering at the end of August we had no idea what our plan was this month and weren’t totally sure we were going to make it, I consider September a success. We have been in Croatia this whole month and mainly in Pula which is the largest city in Istria.
The month started out rocky with us booking our accommodations for two-three nights because we did not have a plan. There was an upside to this though, we were able to spend our 5 year anniversary in Rovinj which may be my favorite city in Istria if not all of Croatia. (And yes, Alex and I have been together for 5 YEARS!! Craziness, I know)
Five years and over 150 days of travel; not bad milestones for the month of September!
While we were in Rovinj we heard some favorable news about a potential harvest job for Alex in Pula. We decided to take the plunge and head down to Pula to see if we could meet with the winemaker.
Turns out this was a FANTASTIC move because Alex has spent the past 20 days volunteering at Trapan Winery here in Pula. It has been a lot of hard work and smelly clothes for him but he has loved it. He has been able to get involved not only in the picking of grapes but also has been helping out in the cellar as well.
As for me, I have transformed into your typical 1950s housewife and I stay home and cook dinner. Haha, well I do more than that. I have been hard at work researching all the fun stuff that goes into a blog besides just writing it, like SEO (It is the bane of my existence. If you don’t know what SEO is, good for you. I wish I could go back to those carefree days!) and also on how to publish an ebook. Yes that is right people, an ebook. Stay tuned to see what it is going to be about in the next couple of weeks!
I do get out of the house a little bit though, especially since there are ROMAN RUINS here in Pula. The nerd in me cannot resist going out and exploring them.
Lots of pizza has been consumed this month…. But when it comes with truffles how can we not?
We moved apartments and are now located right by the sea here in Pula. Luckily there have been enough warm days to take advantage of it.
Wine harvest has become Alex’s life since we arrived here in Pula.
And more roman ruins!! Seriously if I could live amongst ruins I would… I mean I guess I did in Rome…
We have been treated to amazing sunsets here in Pula. The light is just so gorgeous.
I popped down to Dubrovnik for a weekend as well while Alex was here working. I met up with Lisa from The Wandering Lens and helped her out with a photography project which involved me swimming around the old city walls of Dubrovnik!
And now the grapes are all in and harvest is almost officially over. It is amazing how quickly the time went!
We have certainly enjoyed our time here in Pula but we have wandering feet. It is almost time to move on!
And now onto October…..
October is looking to be an interesting month with us leaving Croatia and heading to new destinations! We will be finishing up here in Pula on October 10th and then we are back on the road. Our first destination is going to be Dubrovnik for a night as Alex hasn’t been able to see it. Hopefully the weather will be nice enough so I can play mermaid again like I did for Lisa!
We will then be heading to Kotor, Montenegro for two nights and then off to Kosovo to stay with a friend for two nights as well. These are probably the two destinations I am most excited about as they are completely new and foreign to me! Alex has been to Kosovo and I have heard his stories for the past five years so I am really intrigued to visit there. We also have been following Sonya Khegay on Instagram and WOW are her images of Kotor absolutely stunning! I have been dreaming of visiting Kotor Bay since I found her feed and am so ready to see this magical place in person!
After Kosovo we will be heading to Skopje, Macedonia for our first Workaway experience. (October is full of firsts!) If you have never heard of Workaway, it is basically a website where you can find hosts all over the world who are willing to offer room and board in exchange for a few hours of help. We are going to be helping out at a hostel in the capital of Macedonia for about two weeks and I can’t wait to explore the “Capital of Kitsch”. We will then end October in our favorite city in Greece, Thessaloniki!!! I have been dreaming of returning to Greece since we last left and we are going back!!! (Seriously so excited 🙂 )
Our Top Instagrammers of September
Kaelene from UnlockingKiki
We just discovered Kaelene’s instagram and have absolutely fallen in love with her images of Iceland. She is originally from Oregon but moved to Iceland after meeting her Icelandic boyfriend in Australia. Her love for this beautiful country is clear in all of her gorgeous images. Even though we absolutely FROZE in Iceland this images make me want to catch a flight and go back, freezing weather be damned.
Ariana from The Bosnian Aussie
Ariana is Bosnian born but was raised in Australia and currently she is traveling the Balkans and Europe. She was actually just in Pula but I slept through my alarm and missed her (SO SORRY again!). Mornings are not my thing 🙁 But she still takes absolutely gorgeous photos. She is currently in Italy and is capturing fall so perfectly. Who else wants to go jump in a pile of crunchy falls leaves after looking at these photos?
Michael and Carly from Cross that Box
Michael and Carly are two Aussies who sold all of their stuff and have set out to explore the world indefinitely. I was first drawn to their account because of the absolutely gorgeous images they have posted of Africa. If you have ever dreamed of going to Africa then these images may just be the push you need!
Megsy and Tommo from Travel Freedom Network
I started listening to Megsy and Tommo’s podcast, Travel Freedom Podcast, this month and has been full of so many helpful hints so of course I followed them on pretty much every social media channel possible. Their instagram is full of images that just make you want to live a travel freedom lifestyle. Who else wants to do this? Because we certainly want to (and are trying) and would love the company!
Erin from The World Wanderer
We have been following Erin for quite a long time on instagram and it is completely remiss that we haven’t mentioned her page until now! She just completed a cross country road trip and has posted some amazing photos. We even got to reminiscing with her on instagram about our experiences driving cross country! Seriously if you have ever thought about driving cross country check out her photos now!
So that is our month wrapped up! We cannot wait for the adventures October is going to bring either! Also we are always on the lookout for new people to follow on instagram so leave us your handle in the comments and we will check it out.
