Watching the Sun Rise over the Red Rocks of Sedona

Watching the Sun Rise over the Red RocksSedona, Arizona is a truly magical place.  As you drive towards Sedona you are surrounded by desolate but stunning desert and then you reach Sedona and the sight truly takes your breath away.  Out of the blue there are these huge red rocks that begin to dominate the skyline and no matter how many times you see them (at least for me) they are no less awe inspiring.  One of the things I knew I wanted to do was to see the sun rise over the red rocks of Sedona.  There are several places you can see the sun rise over the rocks but we were suggested by several people to go to the Airport Mesa including Roadtrip Couple.  The Airport Mesa is along Airport Road and actually leads to the Sedona Airport but about half way up there is a small parking lot where you can pull off and take the trail up to an overlook.  From here you will get a fantastic view of the sun rise over Sedona and if you want, you can take the Mesa trail up the rocks for an even better overlook.  There also is a vortex here (Sedona is famous for their centers of energy, or so the hippies say) but needless to say we were soaking in enough of the sun’s energy 🙂

To get to the Airport Mesa take North Route 89A out of town and follow it until you reach Airport Road.  Take a left onto Airport Road and the Mesa parking will be off to your left!
